BIENVENIDOS A MI PRIMER BLOG CREADO PARA EL DIPLOMADO ALAD
QUÉ EXPERIENCIA!!

Developing an essay (ESL Writing lessons)

Thisis a very interesting activity we can start trying. I obtained and addapted the information from this site: http://esl.about.com/od/writinglessonplans/a/l_wwshop1.htm

We can follow the directions and share the information among ourselves. Each student can start and follow the lines already written. This can give us a different way of writing a task. Each student will take a number and do the task.

  1. Student number one:  Choose a short story that is familiar to you and your classmates. Share the name and the site.
  2. Student number two: Answer the questions below:
  • Who are the main characters of the story?
  • Is there a moral to the story? If yes, what do you think it is?
  • What did you learn from the story?
3. Student number three: Start the thesis statement Use a sentence to introduce your idea.
4. Student number four: Develop a body paragraph by giving details. Remember that body paragraphs should develop the central idea
5. Student number five: Begin the summary paragraph by restating the principal idea of the body paragraph.
5. Student number six: Read the whole task and give your opinion and how you could improve it. Remember that criticizing is not the goal..

Reflections on education matters

"Educationalists in general agree that imagination is important, but they would have it cultivated as separate from intelligence, just as they would separate the latter from the activity of the hand. They are the vivisectionists of the human personality. In the school they want children to learn dry facts of reality, while their imagination is cultivated by fairy tales, concerned with a world that is certainly full of marvels, but not the world around them in which they live. On the other hand, by offering the child the story of the universe, we give him something a thousand times more infinite and mysterious to reconstruct with his imagination, a drama no fable can reveal." — Maria Montessori, To Educate the Human Potential, 1948.
